Jungle Island and its running-light bonus

Cartoon reels
The reels sit in a green frame with giant mushrooms and palm leaves around them, and nine line markers on each side. The symbols are all cartoon animals and characters: a pink flamingo, a toucan, a purple lizard, a red parrot, a blue piranha, a green frog, a boy with a feather in his hair and a girl with pink hair.
When a win lands, everything else turns grey, which makes it easy to see what paid. In one shot, three frogs on the middle row pay 0.05.
The scatter
The scatter tile is a small painted island with the word Scatter across it. The screenshot above shows three of them, and the next saved screen is the bonus board.
The bonus board
This is a Little Mary style bonus, the kind found on old arcade fruit machines. A ring of animal tiles runs round the edge, with EXIT in each corner. Along the top is a price list: the boy x200, the girl x100, the toucan x70, the parrot x50, the flamingo x20, the lizard x10, the piranha x5 and the frog x2.
Press Start and a light runs round the ring. Where it stops, you win that symbol's multiplier. In the middle are four small reels with "x500" above four dots. Below them are Total Win, Total Bet and a Time counter, which showed 1. Hitting EXIT ends the bonus.
In our screenshot, the round has already paid 0.18 on a 0.09 bet. The last saved screen is a Mega Win animation of 15.03, which we've skipped.

A board of symbol tiles surrounds four small reels. A light runs round the tiles, and the symbol it stops on pays its multiplier, from x2 up to x200. Landing on an EXIT tile ends the round.
What starts the bonus?
Our screenshots show three scatters, a picture of a jungle island, two on reel 2 and one on reel 5, just before the bonus board. There's no pay table among the saved screens to confirm the exact rule.
What does the x500 above the mini reels mean?
It's shown over four dots above the four middle reels, which suggests four matching symbols in the middle pay 500 times. The screen doesn't say so in words.
