Star996, the one that ran in a web browser
The only one of the 13 names on this site that had no app to install. Star996 was played in the browser, and the old page's licence claims don't hold up.
Twelve of the names on this site are phone apps you install from a file. Star996 was the odd one out. The old download page for it had no Android or iPhone file at all, just a "Play In Online" button that opened the site in a browser. It also came with the boldest claims of any page here.
The licence claims
The text described Star996 as an online casino with "first-class" casino, games, poker and bingo rooms, plus sports and "financials" betting. It then claimed a licence for the sports side from "the Gaming Associates (GA)" and another for the casino side from "the government of Philippines".
We couldn't find anything to support either line, and licence claims like these are exactly what unlicensed sites use to look safe. Both claims are gone. What we can say for certain is that Star996 isn't licensed in Malaysia, where online gambling is illegal.
What we can't show you
The old site saved three images for Star996: a gold logo, the Big Bets sports picture above, and a promo showing two well-known footballers, which we've left out. There isn't one screenshot of a game, a bet slip or an account page, so we won't describe what the site looked like inside.
If you see Star996 today
A browser site has one practical difference from an app: nothing gets installed, so there are no permissions to worry about. Everything else is the same risk. Your money sits with whoever runs the site or the agent who gave you the login, and if they stop paying, nobody in Malaysia can make them. Check the address you're on carefully, since copies of betting sites are common.

Is there a Star996 app?
The old site didn't offer one. Its download page for Star996 had a single Play In Online button that opened the site in a browser, and that link no longer leads anywhere useful from here.
Is Star996 licensed?
The old page claimed a sports licence from a body called Gaming Associates and a casino licence from the government of the Philippines. We found nothing to back that up, so we removed it. It certainly isn't licensed in Malaysia.

The old text listed sports and financial betting, casino, games, poker and bingo rooms. We have no screenshots of any of them.
